Erich Grünbaum studied guitar with Laurie Randolph at Hochschule der Künste Berlin (HdK), now Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) where he graduated "with distinction". He was awarded a scholarship of Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) and attended masterclasses with Abel Carlevaro and Alvaro Pierri.
Grünbaum appeared in concert in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Japan, South-Corea, Taiwan and the United States. He recorded for television and radio programs of RIAS Berlin, Saarländischer Rundfunk, Corean Broadcasting System (KBS) and Moowha Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
Press comentaries attested Grünbaum "playful virtuosity", "impressive sonority" and "relaxed and highly intellectual performance" (Gendai Guitar, Tokyo).
Erich Grünbaum is head of the guitar department of the Leo-Kestenberg-Musikschule Berlin. Among other things his pupils took part in the national music competition "Jugend musiziert" with excellent success and studied at Universität der Künste Berlin, Musikhochschule Hanns Eisler Berlin, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock and Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy" Leipzig.
As director of the "Berliner Meisterkurs für Gitarre" he engaged Artists such as Alvaro Pierri, David Russell, Roberto Aussel and Eduardo Fernandez.
